Nancy Despeaux's ABC 3-Day

In early October, I will be joining about 3,000 others to fight breast cancer in an unusual way – by walking 60 miles, from Lake Lanier to Atlanta, GA, in three days. The event is the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day. As soon as I learned about the event last year, I knew I wanted to be a part of this year’s event.

Since I signed up for it in July, I’ve learned how naïve I was about breast cancer – about how devastating its effects are, about how widespread it is, about anyone’s and everyone’s chances are of being diagnosed with it at any age. I used to believe that, since I have no known history of it in my family, I needn’t concern myself that I might some day have breast cancer myself. I found at that this year in the US alone, over 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40,000 will die of it. Also, it’s the leading cause of death among women from 40-55 years of age, and the most common form of cancer in women in the US.

This is a cause in serious need of a champion, and I see this event as one such champion. I am committed to serving this champion, but I need your help to do so. Please explore more here to see how you can help.
